Assessment of Core Competency Development: Insight From Educators in Online Learning

Abstract
This descriptive study examines core competency development among nursing students during online learning, based on clinical instructors’ assessments of safe and quality nursing care, collaboration and teamwork, and ethico-legal responsibilities. The study included 182 junior nursing students selected through stratified random sampling. Overall competency was rated satisfactory, though the online mode limited clinical skill acquisition. The findings show that online learning can support cognitive processing and learner outcomes while highlighting the continuing importance of clinical placement experiences.
